Why You Should Care About Google Plus

Google Plus has been receiving so much attention and hype lately, that it’s fair to wonder whether the social network is just a fad or a legitimate competitor to Facebook. In this article, you’ll learn some of the benefits of Google Plus, why people would want to sign up for the service, and whether Facebook should be worried. Here’s what Google Plus has to offer:

Google Plus And Circles

Have you ever wanted to post a picture on Facebook but didn’t want your Mom or Grandma to see it? Google Plus seems to have helped solve this problem by the addition of a feature called “Circles.” You simply place your friends into different groups, or Circles, and the information that you share is displayed to the appropriate party.

If you have a work-related link that isn’t relevant to your close friends, that link is only shared with co-workers or friends in your industry. Likewise, the picture of you dancing on top of the table at the bar isn’t visible to your boss.

Google Hangouts

While Facebook has just recently rolled out a video chat feature for their users, they may face stiff competition from Google Plus Hangouts. At this time, Hangouts seems to be the better option. You can have a video call with up to ten people at the same time, while video chat on Facebook is only limited to one person at a time.

Another cool part of Hangouts is the ability to view a YouTube video while on the call with your friends. It’ll be interesting to see if this is one of those features that makes people want to sign up for Google Plus.

Google Sparks

Another interesting feature inside of Google Plus is Sparks. This basically allows you to receive information related to your personal interests. For example, if you’re into basketball, you’ll get the latest information on the NBA lockout. You can think of Sparks as being like Google News, except that you have all of those updates in one place and can share them with your friends. The interesting thing here is that you can receive information, consume it, and share it all in one location.

Google +1 Button

Last but not the least we have the google +1 button which many say mimics the facebook ‘like’ button in many ways. Voting up a link or an article on google+1 will mean that you are sharing the article with all your followers and it will be displayed publicly on your profile allowing it to be voted up by your followers again and the possibility to go viral through consequent votes.

Needless to say no blogger of internet marketer wants to let go off this chunk of traffic. If you are looking to install the Google Plus One Button on your wordpress blog then you can download and install the Google +1 WordPress Plugin without the need to hassle with manual code and you are good to have a bite of this lucrative source of traffic!

It’s not clear yet whether Google Plus will become a “Facebook-killer,” but so far it appears to have some features that could give Facebook a run for their money. Google Plus will have to figure out a way to get people to sign up for yet another social network, and Facebook will be forced to reconsider how they operate. Hopefully the new competition from Google will make both networks better and more valuable for their users.

      I agree!

Google is literally offering total communication solutions along with robust privacy and segregation features which makes a very good balance between sharing and security!

I’m addicted to G+. :) It’s funny how Facebook is trying to copy Google+! Seriously! They need to come up with their own innovative ideas to have an edge over G+. Douchebags.

In all honesty, I never really thought that Google + was going to be a hit let alone be a real competitor to Facebook. I thought it was going to be another one of Google Video vs. YouTube and then end up purchasing YouTube when Google Video was a flop. I really wish Google would wipe out greedy eBay and integrate Google Checkout instead of the rubbish PayPal. That would really a make loads of people happy. Come on Google.
