Yes, you heard me right! I may be a lunatic telling you tips to get help from spammers to build links, but I am not crazy! After reading the last word of the post , you will end up a more enlightened person on what the title promises, and you will end up feeling guilty of how bad we think of our spammer friends. You will also start getting your spammers to build free links for you!
Feeling Bloated With Curiosity? Lets kill it!
To understand this method of link building , we need to understand what goes on in the mind of a spammer(ahem….in context to link building only). Frankly speaking, what is the first thought that comes to your mind when you think about the word ‘spammer’ ? I don’t feel the vibes are too positive, are they? but we need to understand that….
Spammers Are Very Smart SEO Professionals!
Unlike the image of a shady black hat software that comes to your mind when you think of a spammer, and no matter how much you hate them , you will eventually have to accept that spammers, as we ‘lovingly’ call them, are very smart beings, and they have read the SEO rulebook very well. In most cases, the spam comment you get in a very obvious , and not to mention funny spun text format, is posted by an SEO professional who is far more knowledgable than the person receiving the comment!
How often do we end up getting comments like these!
The Trick please!
OK , so now that we have convinced you (or maybe haven’t yet) that spammers are smarter than us, let’s get straight to the trick I mentioned before. The most important point to notice here is that they are smart enough to spin their comments to make sure the search engines don’t flag them. If you think that this is the only smart thing they do, then think again!
Our Quest To Outsmart The Spammer Starts Here!
First of all, if you spot an outright spam comment please accept it! (let me explain it before you take out your shot guns). With all their advanced tracking tools, they know which comments were actually accepted, and they wery well know that a backlink from a related blog bears much more value than conventional link building sites like directories and forum profiles. Once the comment is accepted, the spammer (lets refer to him as an SEO professional henceforth) starts to build links to the page on which the comment was placed to increase the link juice value.
You may still be left wondering why they care to get a link from your low PR blog if they are such an expert SEO professional. The answer is because they don’t care about your pagerank! once the link is accepted, they start building high quality legit links to the page (yes, you can smile now, i am referring to your page). All these links are legit high PR web 2.0 links, and they help them in passing the link juice hierarchy from those web 2.0 sites to their sites via your blog. You will end up getting oodles of quality links this way.
Is It Not Foolish To Have Spammy Comments On The Blog?
Yes, it is if you follow the manual blindly! It is not if you use a little wit here. Delete the comment after a week of publishing it, and the backlinks still stay!
You can’t call this a major link building strategy, and this should never be your primary strategy. It is always advisable to have a tailor made SEO plan for your blog, but these advanced tips are not for the weak of the heart. You can’t get them without getting your hands dirty! But if you do , let me tell you from personal experience, that it works because link building is a numbers game !
Speaking about spammers, when was the last time you remember getting or posting a “thank you” or “nice post ” on somebody’s blog? If we blame them, are we being hypocritical about our own actions? Time for some introspection here……
All said and done , i would like to advice you to not run after volume based link building as Nick explains aptly.
Please tell me of any other innovative and unconventional link building strategies you are adopting , I will be happy to hear them!
Conclusion-
We all hate spammers but then we must acknowledge that they are very smart people who know their SEO. They don’t spam for no reason , they have SEO schedules and link building strategies meticulously planned , and if you use a little wit here you can easily outsmart them to get lead the link building race out of spam .

Copywriting Freedom – Now I don’t know what to say!
How Image Theft Can Affect your SEO
That’s something new and interesting to me.
I think if spammer is using link in only website field and not in comment body then most of bloggers will approve it, but I saw most of the spammers only add lot’s of links in comment body, so then don’t get approved, also adding gravatar in spam comment can work well (for the spammers ofcourse)
but who is the boss here…
I have been visiting your blog for some few days now, and I have not across any of those spam comments, you talked about…if we allow the illegality…the spammer (SEO Experts) woud think that is idea is marketable and also providing the needed traffic and would continue in that illegal business but if we stand against the spammer…everybody would be rewarded for doing the right thing, dont you think so?
Well noticed Iroko , I would have loved to say that ‘thankfully’ i don’t have spam comments but it’s are a decided move , i have a nofollow blog and that makes my blog disappear from the blackhat spam comment softwares like Scrapebox and auto commenter, and all similar softwares that look for dofollow comment blogs and spam it. This even keeps human spammers from ‘thanking me’ for ‘nice post’s , if you know what i mean . But yes i have used this on 3 of my other blogs and a lot of the blogs where I am consulted for SEO , and it works .
As for your hatred towards spammers is understandable but sorry to say that spammers don’t care what people think , if that was the fact then they would have ….well…not been spammers in the first place . Standing against a spammer is a novel idea had it been the case that they comment on only one blog each day! but unfortunately they don’t! , they have softwares that blast thousands of blogs with spun comments within 5 minutes and i don’t think that software cares about human emotions . The only thing going in a spammers mind is , if he blasts with 1000 comments then atleast 50 will be accepted and his purpose is served . They track these accepted comment links and build links to those blogs (our blogs) . That is were we can out smart them by letting the comment be for some time then erasing it completely ! That is what the post it about .
Rohan!, can you imagine having to delete over 2000 spam comments…that was my experience with one of my blogs, I decided to make one of my blog dofollow and I did not activate any anti-spam plugin…I actually had to reinstall the blog from scratch, I could not just take it any longer…its my world against them…
That is a recipe for disaster to make a blog dofollow and not install anti spam plugins , what were you thinking buddy
I see a lot of comment spam these days linking with ‘Drugs online’ and anything in the sort and some spammers using the words that related with the current blog post and linking their website in the end.
I encountered a problem recently that I was in undefined condition on my dashboard whether approve (after moderation) or reject the such comment and decided to click the link to view their profile before the decision, When I click the link, Suddenly I have affected by Malware and lost all of my valuable datas.
This is my experience with spam comments…
I can bet…you will be very determined to block out every spammer moves…
……and so is every blog owner
Whoa… Pretty smart, huh!
What about Viagra, Porn and Drug spam comments? Should you approve them too? I guess it’s easier and safer to get backlinks from scrappers, of course, these will be from low PR pages.
Yeah , that is why the post comes with a Caution – cant be done without getting hands dirty nor shall it be used as a link building strategy . Where it is useful is , while curing the sores of an over optimized post which looks like – 15 Feb 0 backlinks , 16 Feb -100 article directory links , anchor text for all – “keyword” . Not an ideal ‘natural’ link profile is it ? This is where you can use these links to cover up your act . And as such you are cleaning up the mess by getting your hands dirty . There is no easier way to diversify your links other than to get someone else do it , otherwise it raises a red flag from the search engines .
And as far as accepting comments is considered , Spammy comments need not necessarily come from spammy sites always . A lot of ‘SEO solution’ companies use spam to get links by hook or crook and sometimes they(homepage) even have a good PR out of their other linkbuilding efforts and linking to them will not harm . When i say spam comments i don’t mean comments like “buy drugs from us” , i am sure you have seen comments like ‘this is a funny, amusing and interesting SEO ,sem related post, article and helps and aids me a lot ,thank you a lot ‘
Clearly bot generated and spam to the core , but that does not mean they always point to spammy sites .
That is why i said in the post , look before you accept comments and use your wit .
Hey
I didn’t know that spammers actually tried doing social bookmarking of your site if they get a comment accepted.
The really big question is now… How many spammers will actually do this (in your opinion)? And to what extend?
Because if I should allow all kinds of spammy comments on my blog, I really want to know how much I gain by it.
Basically I can see what I gotta pay, but cannot see what I’m actually getting by this strategy.
If I end up with 200 spam comments and 10 social bookmarks it is much easier to simply get one of my SEO Filipino Ninjas to do this in an afternoon.
That is exactly my point ! You have to know how to separate the ‘outright spam’ from the ‘intelligent spam’ . Don’t spend too much time guessing. If it appears that the spammer is using a tool like SE nuke or something similar then the social bookmark comes naturally. If you are even slightly unsure then it is best to trash the comment. The art is in guessing what will work best and then shutting out what does not!
Wow, I have really never thought of spammers helping out like this! Good post. I still fear the perception that my readers would get from seeing all the spam on my blog, but this post does make great sense. It is something that I will have to consider though.
Its a damn interesting thought buddy. But i think we are going back behind a hunch that they will be building backlinks to our blog if the comment is accepted. But obviously what you said worth giving a try..
That is indeed an interesting and a new insight to me.. I get tons of spam comments but to be honest I’m a bit scared to try this “radical” strategy
Not to mention I might forget to delete these comments later
